1. Introduction

Sadhana ("the App", "we", "our") is a Hindu spiritual companion application for Android, offering daily Panchang, a japa counter, Bhagavad Gita shlokas, mantras, and personalized spiritual guidance.

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the App you agree to this Policy. It complies with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

2.2 Collected automatically

Anonymous session identifier — a randomly generated ID on first launch, not linked to your identity unless you link an email.
Japa bead / mala count, streaks, shloka-read count, badges — stored locally, and synced only if you link an account.
Favourites — stored locally in SQLite on your device.

2.3 We do NOT collect

Precise GPS location — Region is a broad preference you select, not a coordinate.
Contacts, camera, microphone or files.
Advertising SDKs or tracking pixels — we never sell or trade your data, or build advertising profiles.

3. How We Use Your Information

Provide core functionality (Panchang, japa, content) — performance of contract / legitimate interest.
Compute Janma Nakshatra and Tara Balam — your explicit consent.
Schedule local push notifications — your explicit consent.
Sync your profile across devices — your explicit consent.
Improve stability and fix bugs — legitimate interest.

We do not use your information for automated decision-making with legal or similarly significant effects on you.

4. Data Storage & Security

On-device: japa counts, streaks, favourites and Panchang cache are stored only on your device in an encrypted SQLite database, and never leave it unless you link an account.

Cloud (Supabase): if you link an email or use the App online, your session ID, preferences, any personal fields you entered, and earned badges/streaks are stored in our Supabase database (AWS us-east-1). Data in transit is encrypted with TLS 1.2+; data at rest with AES-256. Row Level Security ensures you can only ever read or write your own row.

5. Data Retention

On-device data — until you uninstall the App or clear app data.
Supabase profile (anonymous or email-linked) — until you request deletion (see Section 7).
Notification scheduling data — on-device only, removed when you disable notifications.

6. Third-Party Services

Supabase (US) — database, anonymous authentication, cloud sync. Privacy policy
Expo / React Native — app runtime framework. Privacy policy
i18next — localization, runs entirely on-device; no data sent.

We do not integrate Facebook, Google Analytics, Firebase, Mixpanel, or any advertising network.

7. Your Rights

Access & correction: view and update your information any time from the Profile tab.

Deletion: request full deletion via Profile → Account → Delete account, or by emailing support@sadhana.app with subject "Data deletion request". We delete all data within 30 days and confirm by email.

Portability: request a JSON export of your stored data by email; delivered within 30 days.

Withdraw consent: sign out any time from Profile → Account, and disable notifications from Profile → Notifications or device Settings.

Complaints: EU/UK users may contact their local data protection authority; India users may approach the Data Protection Board of India once constituted under the DPDP Act.

8. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information.

9. Push Notifications

The App may request permission for a daily shloka, an evening aarti reminder, and festival alerts. These are scheduled locally on your device — no remote push server is involved. Disable them any time from device Settings or Profile → Notifications.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date and, for material changes, notify you in-app. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

12. Governing Law

This Policy is governed by the laws of the Republic of India. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts at Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.
